KASHYAP MEMORIAL EYE HOSPITAL

We see that many of the patients are being referred to other centres, out of the state. This not only causes inconvenience to the patients but also drains the money from our state to different states.
At different conferences when we meet other ophthalmologists from other states we do not have the words to explain as to why these patients are being referred to other centres when the facilities are available here at their door step.

One factor that comes to our mind is – our centre does not have the required lodging capacity. Hence we have made arrangements for a stay of approximately 47 patients at a time. This will fulfil the criteria for many institutions and organizations for tie- up. This will enable us to have a tie up with them. However majority of the eye operations require only day care arrangements. At the moments we are enjoying the referrals of many individual ophthalmologists. These individual ophthalmologists are the old students of our father Late Prof. Dr Bharat  Prasad Kashyap , Ex. Prof. and Head of the Dept. Ophthalmology, the then Rajendra Medical College and Hospital, Ranchi. These ophthalmologists know the facilities available at this place. Others are our acquaintances at different conferences. It will not be out of place to mention that all the ex students of Prof. Dr Bharat Prasad Kashyap are doing excellent job and probably have the  top practice at their locality. We are proud of them.

It may sound weird but it is a fact that if you take all the Eye institute in India, it is the private Eye Institutes which are excelling. They are doing much better than any of the Govt. organizations. This fact is not only true for the number of patients but also the new innovative procedures, academic presentations at different conferences and even the training of different sub specialties. Few of the organization may be exceptional.

We always welcome your contributions

WHAT WE INTEND TO DO

  • We will involve more doctors in our hospital to increase the number of O.P.Ds.

  • This automatically increase the number of operations .

  • Different sub specialties will be headed by different doctors. It will include Contact    lenses, Squint, Ocular Adenexa, Glaucoma, Anterior segment, Posterior segment, Medical Retina , Surgical Retina and many others.

  • We will have Eye Banking facilities under the aegis of Kashyap Memorial Eye Bank which is a charitable trust.

  • We will have a course to train the Para medical staff for ophthalmologists. It is known as  course of “Diploma in Ophthalmic Techniques”. This will not only help the science graduates to learn and help the other busy ophthalmologists, it will go a long way to combat unemployment. We are in a process to get it recognized by the Jharkhand Govt. so that they could be absorbed in Govt. jobs also.

  • The whole hospital will be computerized and  it will make things to run faster, easier and paper free. It will have the connectivity to all the sub specialties.

CHARITY WING

The present project intends to serve the needy in a class way . It will not only require money but it will also compel us to charge little higher to cope up with the maintenance of the structures and equipments  involved.

One full floor will be dedicated to the charity. Why a poor and needy person should get an inferior visual rehabilitation just because he is poor? This is what led us to think of having a charity wing.

We will have a tie up with lot of N.G.Os from the surrounding areas. The operations will be performed on them on “ no profit no loss” basis. The charge has to be bourn by the charity organisations involved. This charity wing will also have a running Out Patient Department and treating the poor patients. The charity wing will also have an Eye Bank under the aegis of Kashyap Memorial Eye Bank which is a Charitable Trust. Charity wing will be headed by Dr Bharti Kashyap.

EYE BANK

Till now our hospital, Kashyap Eye Hospital has earned a lot of name in the field of Corneal Transplant. If some body talks of eye banking and corneal grafting, he always has our reference. It is the second generation which is involved in Eye Banking.

We will keep it up and we consider this to be a very pious work for the blind people. We do this absolutely free. We proudly mention the presence of Eye bank in our hospital project. We will add a wing which will teach corneal grafting to the Ophthalmologists who are interested in this field.

ACADEMICS

In the national scenario in the field of Ophthalmology we find our people are lagging behind. We do make our presence felt in all the conference at all the levels. It includes district, state, zonal, national and international levels. We want that more and more people to represent our state. For this they have to be academically and technically sound. Our endeavor in this field can only be fulfilled if we have a teaching arrangements.

And we do have...

D.O.T. (Diploma in Ophthalmic Techniques)

It is a three years course approved by the Delhi Govt. We are in a process to get it recognized by the Govt. of Jharkhand. Recently it has been recognized by IGNOU. The course of DOT will be now B.Sc. Ophthalmic Techniques.

We have six seats each year for them. At the moment we have six students who have completed one and two years and few more students will be  joining in a near future. We can accommodate six students every year. After passing out these D.O.Ts will be a solid weapon to combat the blindness. They can be an asset to any eye hospital.

“HANDS ON” TEACHING

Not every body gets enough chance to operate on patients and get trained. We will have this facility to train the young ophthalmologists. They will be given chance to operate. It goes without saying that these young ophthalmologists will be taught first and they will be operating under the supervision of our expert doctors. We already possess these ways to teach our junior colleagues. We may have to charge them. We will try and give them accommodation. They may be attached to the charity wing also.

BANK

We will have a bank in our ground floor. The bank will give us extra security by means of their security. It will also be a source of constant income which is badly needed for the maintenance of the hospital. It will help our patients, doctors and paramedical staff on money matters. They will not have to go anywhere for this. It will be the bank at the door step

RESTAURANT

We want that all the staff should be dedicated to the cause of blindness. They do not have to bother for their meals. The restaurant is proposed on the first floor. It will cater the doctors and the paramedical staff on “no profit no loss” basis. It will make the meals very cheap and there will be no botheration of getting the meals from home or cooking for themselves after they go back home. It will also give a sense of equality. Doctors will have the same food what paramedical is having.

However it will charge the patients it’s normal charge.

We intend to increase the number of out door patients to 200. It will make approximately 400 people to step in our hospital everyday ( one patient- one attendant ). Not every body is seen immediately. The patients waiting for their turn may sit here and have their meals and snacks if they feel hungry.

The hygiene and the rate of different eatables of the restaurant will be supervised by the hospital authorities. It will also help generate some money for the maintenance of the hospital.

MEDICAL SHOP

Medical shop will be on first floor. This floor has the restaurant, medical shop, optical shop, registration counter and the administrative section. Medical shop will help all the patients to get their medicines on genuine price. It will also ensure that the medicines are not spurious which is rampant in this area. Moreover getting all the facilities under one roof is a great help to the patients.

  • There will be no substitution of medicines.

  • There will be no delay in starting the treatment.

  • This will give employment to unemployed people.

  • This will in turn generate some money for the hospital maintenance.

OPTICAL SHOP

It is said that the optical shop in the hospital premises benefits both, the doctors and the patients. It will help patients getting the genuine glasses and frames. It will deliver the goods at a very affordable price. Since the number of the patients are expected to be good, the ready made glasses will enable our patients to get the glasses made much ahead of time. This will also in turn generate some money for the hospital maintenance.

The medical shop and the optical shop will be connected to the main computer so that the patients requirements will be fulfilled before they even reach the shops.
