Born 15th May, 1967, Dr.Bharti Kashyap, MBBS, M.S. (Ophthalmology), Fellow in Cornea has been fighting blindness in rural Jharkhand over the past 25 years and helping preserve God’s precious gift to mankind.Recipient of Nari Shakti Puraskar 2017 for women empowerment by Ministry of Women and Child Welfare, Govt. Of India, on March 8,2018 Conferred with “Doctor of the Year Award, 2017” by Indian Medical Association, New Delhi for her contributions to the society at large and to the medical profession


War against cervical cancer :   As chair person of Indian Medical Association, Women doctors’ Wing, Jharkhand Chapter since 2014, Dr.Bharti Kashyap has also been waging a war against cervical cancer, the most common cause of cancer in women in our country by holding cervical cancer screening camps in remote areas of Jharkhand and educating women on nutrition, genital hygiene, multiple pregnancies and evils of pushing their girl child into early marriages. Creating trained manpower in vision testing and early detection of Cervical Cancer in women

1.To lend teeth to her fight against blindness, she has trained hundreds of school teachers working in government schools all over the stare, in detecting Vitamin A deficiency, eye infections, squints, lazy eyes and in vision testing. Since 2004, she has also been training B.Sc Optometry students through various Paramedical Courses affiliated to IGNOU, FOREC, B.Sc Internship Training program and State level Councils , thereby creating a pool of trained manpower for Jharkhand to reach the goal of eliminating avoidable blindness by 2020.

2. She has also pioneered training programmes for doctors working in primary health care centres and Sadar Hospitals of Jharkhand, on cervical screening through VIA Screening methodology and CRYO treatment for detection of cervical cancer in women.


Recognition :   Dr.Kashyap got the most honoured invite by Hon’ble Narendra Modi for Chai pe Charcha, organized to focus on women empowerment, on International Women’s Day 2014. She was one amongst six women to be invited from all over the country for the august gathering. USA based Service Beyong Borders has acknowledged her extraordinary contribution in the field of women empowerment through Cervical Cancer Erradication and Anemia Prevention campaigns amongst primitive tribal and underpreviledged women in the state of Jharkhand for the years 2015,2016,2017 & 2018. Conferred with national awards like Med Achiever National Award for excellent community services by Union Health Minister Dr. Harshvardhan in a function organized by National IMA, Leadership Development Award by All India Ophthalmic Society, and Association of Community Ophthalmologist of India. For her services to humanity, Dr. Kashyap has been conferred with many state level awards by Hon’ble Governors and Chief Ministers of Jharkhand in functions organized by prestigious social organizations and national media groups. She is also a life member of Asian Society for Quality in Health Care, All India Ophthalmologic Society, Indian Medical Association, Eye Bank Association of India, Eastern India Zonal Society of Ophthalmology, Women Ophthalmological Society, Delhi Ophthalmological Society, Bihar Ophthalmological Society and Jharkhand Ophthalmological Society.

In the field of ophthalmology, she has the maximum number of international presentations to her credit from Jharkhand. She has presented scientific papers at the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery at California, USA European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, Asia Pacific Conference at Bali, American Academy of Ophthalmology,Chicago, Asia Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology Congress, Taipei, European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, at Barcelona, Spain and in various conferences within the country.
